Cooler Compressor/Electric Inverter Compressor

The cooler compressor is the air conditioning (A/C) compressor. It is supplied with power from the high-voltage battery pack. The A/C compressor has its own internal converter that converts the direct current (DC) power from the high-voltage battery to alternating current (AC) that powers its motor. The A/C system uses refrigerant (R-134a) to remove heat from the vehicle cabin air.

The A/C system has its own electronic control unit (ECU) that controls its overall operation. Operation is controlled based on the evaporator temperature (which is calculated by the temperature control switch, room temperature sensor, ambient temperature sensor, and automatic light control sensor). The evaporate acts as the heat exchanger for the vehicle cabin. The R-134a evaporates which absorbs heat from the cabin air. The R-134a passes through the condenser (outside the cabin) which rejects the heat to the outside air. The compressor circulates and pressurizes the refrigerant for proper system operation.
